The reasons for the disturbed balance of the intestinal microbiota can be numerous and are often manifested as diarrhoea.
The most common cause of diarrhoea is a viral infection of the intestines, but frequent, watery stools can also be caused by bacteria, parasites, and food. Diarrhoea is more common in children, the elderly and people with weakened immune system, and is often accompanied by nausea and vomiting.
On the other hand, taking antibiotics is also one of the reasons for damaged intestinal microbiota – namely, the antibiotic, which we take to treat bacterial infections in order to destroy bad bacteria, unfortunately also destroys good bacteria in the digestive system, which are necessary for maintaining a healthy intestinal microbiota. This can also lead to diarrhoea.
